Wedding #3 – The Toilet Paper Dresses

This was actually a bridal shower and not a wedding, as there were no children invited to the ceremony or reception. I think there were more children and pre-teens, at this bridal shower than there were adults actually. It was held in a church basement, and the amount of cookie platters from the grocery store that were present definitely forgave the fact that we couldn’t go to the wedding. I’m pretty sure my sister and I hid a few extras in our pockets for later.

This is where I was first introduced to the art of bridal shower games, anything from the paperclip game, to making wedding dresses out of toilet paper. As young girls we were so enthralled by making these dresses that we ran around the church, to every bathroom, collecting as much toilet paper as we could, so that we could all have a white dress.

One by one, bows and ribbons were added to the paper plate hat on the soon-to-be bride’s head, and gifts were passed around the circle. It was towel set after towel set, until my mom’s gift was opened of course. My mom had given the bride a lacey pink “pajama” like I’d never seen before, and as I watched everyone blush and giggle, I knew that it was a good gift to bring to these kinds of things. It definitely gave the party a much needed jolt of energy.

This was my tame introduction to shower games, naughty gifts, and the organization of weddings and everything that goes along with them. This knowledge would prove to be helpful in the future. For those 27 dresses and 27 weddings to come.
