Wedding #4 – The Macarena and the VW Bug

The wedding and reception took place in the garden of a close family friend. The bride’s dad built a stage out of an old wooden trailer, which was placed in front of the trickling creek, and the large birch trees. You even had to cross a little bridge to get to the ceremony. It couldn’t have been more idyllic.

As children we spent most of our time, after the ceremony, in the gazebo off the creek. We ate as we swung back and forth, back and forth, over the cool water. We tried to catch small frogs and butterflies, and we giggled for hours together. The sun began to set, the music started, and we couldn’t help but dance our little hearts out.

Around 11pm, the happy couple were sent off in their fully restored, royal blue, Volkswagen Beetle. I think this is when I first fell in love with VW Bugs. As they drove over yet another bridge, the streamers danced in the breeze, and the cans clapped alongside, “Just Married” the sign read on their tailgate.

But the party didn’t stop there! Because this was a private home, there were no pesky time constraints, and we danced for another hour or two at least. This is my fondest memory from the evening, adults and children alike, all dancing the chicken dance together, and of course, The Macarena. To me, a wedding could not get much better than this.
