Wedding #8 – The taco truck & the hummingbird.

Once again we were in the yard with the bridges, the birch trees, and the gazebo. Only this time I watched a long-time crush of mine get married on that wooden stage, with the sounds of the creek rushing by. Though, if I’m being honest, I can’t recall a time where we actually had a conversation. Oh, childhood crushes, how unrealistic!

I continued to watch as tissue box after tissue box was passed along to all the mothers and grandmothers. This wedding was slightly more Pinterest-esk than the last couple, with photos strung up on old fruit picking ladders, and candles in mason jars hanging from the branches of the four cherry trees. But the most millennial thing at the wedding was definitely the Taco Truck.

After grabbing our allotted three tacos from the truck, we all sat in our long-table dinner style seats. And as we listened to speeches, and watched as the couple played the shoe game, I realized why my parents always got invited to weddings. My mom was the entertainment.

I watched as she heckled those giving speeches, and clinked her glass every thirty seconds, I looked around, and there was not one person not laughing along. I remember this moment so vividly, and even though it is amusing, it also fills me with so much warmth. I hope that one day I can create as much joy within others as my mom does.

There wasn’t really a big party after this reception, you see, the groom’s aunt, who owned this beautiful garden, was very concerned about a certain hummingbird and her eggs. So we were all very courteous and watchful of the nest, making sure the mama bird didn’t fly her nest and abandon her eggs.

All in all the wedding was an amazing success, and I learned to appreciate moms, of all kinds, just a little bit more.
