Wedding #12 – Barns, Brothers, Battlestar Galactica

Yes. That is a shameless reference to The Office. But the barn and brothers were definitely involved. We’re back at the beautiful red barn, with the horses coming in and out of one side, while the bride gets ready in the other. It was now the son’s turn to get married, and everything was just as perfect as his sister’s, but lacked that dramatic tension from the affair.

This time there was an old grey Chevy filled with balloons at the entrance, and bouquets hanging from little metal hooks along the aisle. But what was most special about this union, was that it was a blending of families, and the bride’s daughter was the absolute cutest flower girl ever. Their little family waltzed proudly from the huppa, through a cloud of small bubbles.

It was in this moment that I couldn’t help but gaze at the best man, and the groom’s brother, he has always been one good looking fellow. And when I would come visit his mom with mine, I would often try to catch a glimpse of him upstairs, or passing through the kitchen. This was obviously another one of those unrealistic childhood crushes, especially since he was at least ten years older than me. Not that that stopped me in the future…in the very near future as luck would have it. Anyway, that’s a story for another time.

This was a significant wedding for me personally, because it was after this wedding that I was offered the position of in-house photographer for the venue. I had been working as the camp photographer for a couple years now, and I took some photos at the last camp wedding that the couple used as their official wedding photos. Now the owners were so impressed by the moments I was able to capture at their son’s wedding, that they offered me a job.

As honoured as I was, I worked best in the realm of candids, and felt that I couldn’t work under the pressure as an official photographer at this point in my life. I was also moving to England a month later, for a college semester abroad, so I had another good excuse. However, this whole experience definitely sparked the interest and possibility that maybe I could do something in weddings in the future. We would just have to see…and that we certainly did.
